Packers' History

The Packers have had a devoted fan-base since they started in 1921. Since then, they have obtained 9 NFL championships and 3 Superbowl victories. This gives them the record of having the most NFL league championships.

The Packers really started to see success in the 1960s under the wings of Head Coach Vince Lombardi who took this defeated team to the top. In 7 years, they won 5 league championships and then went on to win 2 Superbowls. The Super Bowl trophy was renamed the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 1970 in recognition of these accomplishments.

The 70's and 80's were harder for the Packers with year-after-year losses under coaches Bart Starr, Forrest Gregg and Lindy Infante. Bad draft choices were made and performance suffered because of it. In the 90's, the Packers were back on their game under the tutelage of General Manager Ron Wolf who hired Mike Holmgren as head coach and negotiated a trade for Brett Favre from the Atlanta Falcons. Brett Favre is one of the most recognizable names in sports and the NFL today and is the NFL's only three-time MVP . Since then, the Packers have had 13 straight non-losing seasons in a row with 2 Superbowl appearances and 1 win.

Things took a different turn in 2005, when the Packers had their worst season since 1991. Mike Sherman was let go and replaced with Mike McCarthy who is now their current head coach. Only time will tell how the Packers' performance will be effected by this move.
